Kitui East Member of Parliament Hon Nimrod Mbai was furious when Kenya Power And Lighting company officials tried to disconnect his electricity in Kitengela on June 4.
He claimed that President William Ruto had banned KPLC from disconnecting electricity from Kenyans who had illegally connected it.
Mbai said that Ruto had ordered KPLC to install meter boxes on homes that they suspected had been connected illegally. He also accused the KPLC workers of invading his Kajiado farm and removing installed electrical polls without his permission.
The situation escalated when Mbai allegedly slapped one of the KPLC workers. The incident was caught on camera and went viral on social media.
Mbai has since apologized for his actions, but he has also defended his right to use electricity that he believes he is entitled to. The matter is still under investigation.
