One of the most common beliefs is that school is the key to a successful and fulfilling life. It’s true since it helps one reach his or her full potential and acquires marketable abilities. But what about the students who struggle in class?

As Salome Chepkemoi demonstrates, one’s potential for success in life is not predicated on academic performance.

She managed to build a multimillion-dollar business despite getting D’s on the KCSE.

The young entrepreneur’s narrative paints a picture of a dedicated and resolute woman who is willing to overcome enormous obstacles on her way to the top.

After Chepkemoi became pregnant in the second grade, her father disowned her. That didn’t stop her from finishing high school, though. She took the KCSE back in 2012 and got a failing grade.

The young businesswoman, now 28 years old, dropped out of college and started making her own way in the world as soon as she graduated from high school. First job out of college, she worked in a posh boutique where she was paid a commission based on the number of customers she brought in.

Chepkemoi gained valuable experience in the corporate world during her time there.

Salome opened a quaint little shop with her earnings after working for a while. She ran the firm using the expertise she gained in her prior position.

Unexpectedly, her career took off when a friend who was leaving for a foreign country offered to pass over the company she had been running.

The eager young business owner jumped at the chance. She made a goodwill payment and continued to make regular rent payments.

She opened a second location because the first one became so successful.

Salome Chepkemoi currently owns and operates not one, but two shops in the central Eldoret district. Besides that, she also runs a sizable chicken farm.

Additionally, Salome has a nice house, and two cars, and runs successful businesses which she has built through hard work.
