Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Njeri Maina is set to formalize her union with Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, following a traditional dowry payment ceremony held in Kangari, Kigumo constituency.
The event, attended by prominent figures including President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, marked a significant step in the relationship between the two politicians, both elected for the first time in 2022 under Ruto’s UDA party.
Prior to their political careers, Wamumbi served as the MCA for Konyu ward, while Betty held the position of director at the Athi Water Development Agency, appointed by then Principal Secretary for Water Joseph Wairagu.
Their paths crossed during the 2022 election campaigns, leading to a romance that culminated in their upcoming marriage.
In a candid interview, Betty Maina disclosed her past marriage, which resulted in two children.
Reflecting on the experience, she shared that the union ended due to their youthful age, emphasizing that she harbors no ill will toward her ex-husband and values their amicable relationship for the sake of their children.
Betty, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from Mount Kenya University (MKU), is currently pursuing a Master’s in Leadership and Governance at the same institution.
In a piece of advice, she encouraged individuals trapped in toxic relationships to prioritize their mental health, asserting that the decision to leave such unions should not be stigmatized.
“Marriage is a very good institution, but one should discard it if the union is toxic. People should not mind being labeled as divorcees for quitting destructive relationships,” Betty emphasized during an interview with Inooro FM’s Jeff Kuria.
