Mombasa-based fuel tycoon Anne Njeri, associated with a staggering KSh 17 billion oil importation, recently recounted a harrowing ordeal after being kidnapped outside the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters.
Found safe in Mombasa on Tuesday, her sudden disappearance had sparked public concern.
Njeri disclosed, “I applied with EPRA and paid for the import permit. CS Chirchir informed me the fuel no longer belonged to me but to Galana company. He directed me to CID headquarters to record a statement, where I was subsequently abducted.”
The perpetrators confiscated her phone, demanded the password, and embarked on a journey towards Kiambu.

Njeri, fearing for her life, pleaded with her kidnappers, emphasizing her role as a mother.
Transported down a rough road, blindfolded, and unsure of her destination, Njeri continued praying.
The abductors switched cars and took her to an undisclosed location.
Inside a windowless room with just a mattress and a chain, she was pressured to confess, facing threats of harm. Njeri valiantly maintained her innocence, recounting, “They promised to return the following day, leaving me in isolation.”
Despite refusing water due to fasting, Njeri was coerced into consuming vegetables, fruits, and strong coffee. Alone in the secluded room, she resorted to urinating inside.
An official questioned her the next morning, but she held her ground, insisting the fuel was rightfully hers. Eventually released, she was told no wrongdoing had occurred, and they refrained from harming a mother.
“I remained there praying to God and at one point, I had to urinate inside the room since there was nobody to open the door for me. An officer came in the morning and questioned me.

I told them the fuel belonged to me and they went away. They later released me saying there was no mistake I had done and that they were not to kill a mother like me. They throw me out at a place that I was rescued by my lawyer,” she stated.
This disturbing incident raises questions about the intersection of business, government, and criminal elements.
Njeri’s bravery in the face of adversity highlights the challenges individuals face when entangled in complex and high-stakes situations.
The investigation into her abduction is ongoing, shedding light on the broader implications of corporate dealings in Kenya.
