MP Beatrice Elachi Urges Parents to Pray for Gen Z as She Opens Up on Son’s Death

MP Beatrice Elachi Urges Parents to Pray for Gen Z as She Opens Up on Son’s Death

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi on Friday, March 28, urged parents to pray for the Gen Z generation as she revealed the moments leading to her son Elvis Murakana’s death.

While speaking during her son’s requiem service, Elachi stated that the current generation, in their perceived sense of freedom, tends to do things off the cuff without necessarily taking note of their parents’ reactions or authority over their affairs.

Elachi noted that such a scenario is what led to her son’s demise. Murakana passed away on Tuesday, March 25, while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit after being involved in a grisly road accident.

“I want to talk to parents about our children today. We have a generation that believes that they can sort out their own problems. So they wake up at any hour when one is in a challenge, and they will not even tell you. They will go, and they will deal with the problem. They will only tell you if indeed they were unable to do it and there is a crisis. But they will bail each other out, and you will not believe,” Elachi stated.

“So in the same breath, that is what Elvis did. He was in bed at 10pm, was called to help a friend, rushed, and did it well. But when he was coming back, he had a tyre burst. He rushed to use the emergency brakes but then lost control. In that, he sustained injuries to his brain, which led to his death,” she expressed.

Elachi thus urged parents to make devotions to ensure the safety of their children: “We, as mothers and parents today, let us pray for this generation. It is a very tough generation that needs a lot of prayers.”

Elachi eulogised her son as a lover of music, church, and football, adding that he was introverted. She revealed that while her son was undergoing treatment, she could tell of his impending demise, seemingly intimating that it gave her closure.

In the wake of Murakana’s passing, President William Ruto led fellow leaders in sending a condolence message to Elachi.

“May God grant Mheshimiwa Beatrice Elachi and the family strength to bear the loss of their dear son, Elvis Murakana. Be comforted by the word of the Lord in Psalm 147:3: ‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,’” Ruto stated.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, which sponsored Elachi for the Dagoretti North seat, also sent its condolences.

“May God grant Hon. Beatrice Elachi (MP, Dagoretti North) and her family the fortitude and strength to overcome the pain of losing her son, Elvis Murakana Namenya. It is such a huge loss to Mheshimiwa. As a party, we stand with her during this difficult moment of mourning and grief,” ODM stated in a statement.

Murakana will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 29, at the family home in Nalepo Village, Kajiado County. At the time of his death, Elvis was a Business Studies student at Africa Nazarene University, waiting for his graduation in June 2025.
