Babu Owino’s wife, Fridah Ongili, has stepped forward a day after his detention to demand his quick release as the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East.
The outspoken lawmaker’s last known public appearance was on Tuesday, July 18th, and he was arrested at JKIA shortly after arrival on that same night, according to a post he wrote the following day.
Wednesday’s protests, which the Azimio president called a “success,” came after the opposition claimed the government was targeting them.

Hours after his incarceration, Fridah made a video that quickly went viral in which she begged the government to help her see him.
Today, I have done nothing but look for him. The DCI headquarters was my first stop. The airport was where I was told to look for him, but he wasn’t there. She claimed, “I went to the police stations in Muthaiga, Gigiri, Kilima ni, Kileleshwa, and Embakasi, but I couldn’t find him anywhere.”
Fridah disclosed that she tracked her spouse to Mwea’s Wanguru police station.
Since their last conversation, she had mentioned that she was planning to bring him some food and medicine.
She also asked the opposition to help her free her husband on the grounds that he was defending Kenyans‘ civil liberties.
