On June 27th, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua pleaded with former President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop the planned mass protest by contacting Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
During an interfaith service in Nandi County, Gachagua claimed that Uhuru owed it to Kenyans because he was responsible for the country’s high cost of living.
He claimed that the Kenyan people turned the ex-president into a king by electing him twice as president when he was unqualified and then demanding a favor from him in return.
It’s fine if you think nothing of us; I get it. Find your sibling as soon as possible and persuade him to stop inciting others to cause destruction.
That is completely unacceptable in any civilized community. If he agrees to what we’ve asked for, we won’t have any trouble with him,” Gachagua said.
The outspoken DP meddled in the battle between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio, involving Uhuru’s family.
“How ungrateful can you be with your brother, having so much property, and then paying Azimio to sow instability in Nairobi? So what if they have very little? What do you have against impoverished people and their possessions? Gachagua made the claim.
Meanwhile, he advised President Ruto not to cave in to Odinga’s demands, saying that if a handshake were to be agreed upon, the President would be responsible for its terms.
The Head of State reaffirmed his stance that he would not negotiate with tyrants.
Ruto reaffirmed that any meeting with any leader would have to be held in accordance with the law. However, he was adamant that the cops would do their jobs.
Nairobi County Police Commander Adamson Bungei had declared the planned mass protest illegal, claiming that Azimio did not respect the law.
But Odinga denied the claims and shared a letter the coalition had addressed to the police chief informing him of peaceful gatherings in the Nairobi Metropolitan area.
