Akothe’s wedding to her Swiss fiancé Omosh last week garnered media attention in Kenya. Some of her closest family members, such as her sister Cebbie, were absent from the wedding, which raised questions about the circumstances given that she is in Kenya.
Akothe recently blogged about this on her Facebook page, defining family as a group of individuals who are connected by blood but do not know one another. She continued by advising Kenyans not to use special occasions for family reunions and to let bad situations remain bad.
She emphasized that you shouldn’t seem to be forgiving when you’re actually not and that you first forgive yourself before you can forgive others. She made it plain that just because someone is a part of your family doesn’t mean you have to be close to them; rather, family should stay together and meetings should only take place at funerals and other family gatherings.
She came to the conclusion that family had nothing to offer you other than trying to harm you because Cain was killed by his brother and Joseph was likewise sold by his brothers. She claimed that she did not invite anyone who was not attending her wedding.
