Nairobi’s shoe shiner spills the beans on her Ksh.1 million annual income. The job of shoe shiner is one of the more underappreciated in Kenya. This type of work is seen as peculiar.

It’s not widely known, but this line of employment actually pays well enough for people to be able to cover their living expenses and save some of the money they earn.

Conversational exchange with Show Host Ali. Hellen is a shoe shiner who has been in the business for five years. She has been working there for five years and says it’s a fantastic job.

Hellen claims that she may make between ksh.2000 and ksh.2500 per day after costs. Assuming a monthly rate, this amounts to $60,000. Assuming 12 months, the annual total comes to roughly 720,000. Keeping in mind that they change every day, that works out to roughly ksh.1,000,000 every year.

Those who don’t have ownership stakes in the locations typically pay ksh.800 daily to the landlords.

Cleaning shoes can bring in anywhere from ksh. 1,000 to ksh. 1,500 per day, ksh. 40,000 to ksh. 500,000 per year, just for one person.

Despite the difficulties she encounters, Hellen takes immense pride in her work. The majority of problems may be traced back to Kenya’s current economic climate.

She, however, maintains hope that all will turn out okay. She’s proof that you don’t have to work in the “white collar” sector to become wealthy.
