Eliud Owallo has been appointed by President William Ruto today to serve as the Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT). Joe Mucheru was the first person to hold this role. Fred Matiangi, before entering the field of education, held a similar position.

With Eliud’s appointment, Ruto gains the services of the only native Luo in his government. Overall, his balancing skills are around par. Similarly, he has appointed Ezekiel Machogu, a member of the Kisii community, to the role of Education cabinet secretary, both of whom are Nyaza.
The technocrat Owallo will be remembered for his passionate campaigning for President Ruto in Nyanza, a province often considered to be Raila’s stronghold.

This effort has finally borne fruit. Even though he was unsuccessful in his bid for the Kibra parliamentary seat on the ANC party ticket, Eliud Owallo has previously run for office. I hope Owalo enjoys his success.
