The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced an increase in fuel prices, effective September 15 through October 14. This means Kenyans will have to spend more money than they had planned.

In Nairobi, the price of a liter of Super Petrol jumped by Ksh20 to a new all- time high of Ksh179. 30, the price of a liter of Diesel grew by Ksh25 to Ksh165, and the price of a liter of Kerosene rose by Ksh20 to Ksh147. 94.

On Wednesday, the 14th of September 2022, barely one day after President William Ruto was sworn in, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula discussed the nature of fuel subsidies in the country.

This is in response to reports that fuel subsidies in Kenya are unsustainable, meaning that drivers would have to pay more at the pump unless the government changes course.

Moses Wetangula, the speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly, has said that the country’s fuel subsidy cannot be maintained, meaning that Kenyans will have to pay higher prices at a time when the government is working to find more permanent solutions.

” Subsidizing gas prices is unsustainable. Instead of wasting a lot of money on subsidies, it is better to buy it expensively while we hunt for a sustainable answer. There will soon be a decrease in the price of Super Petrol ” As the Fuel controversy grows, he tweeted his thoughts.

One liter of gasoline costs Ksh176. 98 in Mombasa, while diesel is Ksh162. 76 and kerosene is Ksh145. 69.

In Nakuru, a gallon of gas costs Ksh178. 62, while a gallon of diesel costs Ksh164. 83, and a gallon of kerosene costs Ksh147. 79. The price of a gallon of gasoline in Eldoret will be Ksh179. 50, while a gallon of diesel will cost Ksh165. 72, and a gallon of kerosene will cost Ksh148. 67.

Prices for gasoline in some regions have risen to an all- time high, between Ksh180 and Ksh192 per gallon. Lamu, Laisamis, Meru, Mtito Andei, Elwak, Mandera, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay, Migori, Busia, and Kimilili are some of these locations.

On Wednesday, September 14, at around 11: 59 p. m. , EPRA finally released the notice, seemingly due to a delay induced by a dispute between major players.
