A young man named Micheal III assumed the throne of the Byzantine Empire. He was young and Naive, and he needed someone he could trust as his councilor. Suddenly, his thought’s flashback to his best friend’s names, Basilius, who has also helped him in the time past. He thought it was the right time to return the favor. Basilius has no iota experience in politics. Micheal Immediately appoints him as the head of the stables. He flourishes him with gifts and favors. Basilus was sent to the finest school in Byzantium, sooner than expected he become a knowledgeable courtier in the court of Michael III.
Time went on, Michael become an Emperor and was in need of someone loyal to head the post of chamberlain and chief councilor. He couldn’t think of anyone besides his best friend Basilus. Michael increased his salary, ennobled him, and married him off to his mistress, Eudoxia Ingerina. As time went on, Basilus conspired against Bardas, the head of the army. Basilus indoctrinated Michael and poison his mind until one evening Michael agreed to execute his uncle. During a great horse race, Basilius closed in on Bardas in the crowd and stabbed him to death.
Soon after the horrible incident, Basilius requested Michael should assign him as the head of the army, and his request was granted.
Before Michael realized it, Basilius grow fabulously rich and powerful, and Michael, on the other hand, was struggle to make an end meet and requested that Basilius pay back some of the money he had borrowed over the years. However, to his dismay surprised, Basilius declined with a look of such impudence and arrogance.
Michael couldn’t believe what he just witnessed, he suddenly realized his friend has acquired more power, more army, and a senate, and he has acquired more power than the Emperor himself.
On 24 September 867, a few weeks later on one unexpected evening after a heavy night of drinking. As Michael lay insensible in his bed-chamber, he awoke to find himself.
