Kenya kwanza alliance and the Azimio la umoja one Kenya alliance have been fighting for the majority position in the national assembly.
Although speaker of the national assembly is expected to make the ruling, both Azimio and the Kenya Kwanza are boasting of having majority members in the parliament.
Ken Echesa who is an advocate has made his made his remarks on the scramble of position in the national assembly. Speaking to TV 47, Echesa claims that Wetangula’s decision will be important in the future.
To him, if Speaker Wetangula gives Azimio the majority sit, then it means that sitting president has no authority to have the Majority. This is if he has the minority in the house and convince the other members of of the “rival” alliance to join his alliance.
“If Wentangula rules that Azimio has the majority, he will have made a landmark decision so that in the future even if a sitting president buys all the opposition MPs he cannot have a majority on the floor.” Ken Echesa claims.
He went on an stated that Speaker Wetangula will have to decide himself on which party has numbers and not asking the members to elect.
“The Speaker has to decide which party is the largest party or coalition of parties. Asking members to elect will be a double legal tragedy in so far as the interpretation of the standing orders is concerned.” Ken Echesa added.
Echesa went on and claimed that Jubilee party was in power but was omnipotent and that UDA can also find itself in the same situation because to him, times have changed.
“Jubilee party under ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta was omnipotent and had powers that were not known in law. Times change and UDA MPs might find themselves where Azimio is.” – Ken Echesa added.
