The President of Kenya resides in the State House, which was built during the country’s colonial era and now serves as the official house of the President.

Although it enjoys widespread recognition in Kenya, its century-long history is mostly unknown outside of a select few.Photo Courstesy Read this article from KDRTV to learn some fascinating information about President William Ruto’s official house, State House.

    What year did construction begin

For the governor of British East Africa, State House was constructed in 1907.

Why it was situated atop a hill

The colonists, who were both enamored with and terrified by the spectacular panoramas afforded by the hilltop location, constructed the structure there.

Which Designer Was Responsible for Its Creation

British architect Herbert Baker was responsible for designing the State House. Victorian era buildings served as inspiration for the design. Herbert, born in 1862, is famous for his work designing government buildings in India and South Africa. In 1946, he passed away.

    Initial Letter of Its Name

The State House was once called the Government House before independence. When the colonial Governors lived there, it was considered their official residence. During the time that Kenya was a British colony, this building served as the official house of the Governor British of East Africa.

Explanation of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s lack of a State House address

The first president of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, did not live in State House. Instead, he favored being in his Gatundu residence. The founder conducted all of his daytime business at the State House.

In Kenyatta’s mind, the State House was haunted by the spirits of dead white settlers who would harm him if he spent the night there. Kenyatta also found the croaking of the frogs in the area around the State House to be distracting and annoying, making it impossible for him to sleep there.

Duncan Ndegwa, the country’s first postcolonial head of civil service and secretary to the cabinet, recently divulged this information. Ndegwa was also a close friend of Jomo Kenyatta.
