Team University Founders, Programs Offered and Accreditation

By Prudence Minayo
Team University offers competitive courses in line with international standards. In October 2010, they became the first private degree awarding institution licensed by National Council for Higher Education.
They now provide undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postgraduate diploma programs, as well as vocational courses and training for professional certification. Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research are among the five faculties that offer degree programs at the university.
The Founders:
Three Ugandan citizens, Joseph Kigongo, Balikuddembe, David Tushabomwe, and Sam Kindyomunda, who are all accountants, created Team University. It began as a business school with the goal of preparing students to become accountants. The Association of Chattered Certified Accountants awarded the students a certificate (ACCA). Before moving to CAROL House, they rented space from BAT Valley Primary School.
How it Became a University:
Three-man team applied to the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE) in 2006 to alter Team Business College’s status to that of a private university. They were issued an interim letter in December of the following year to form Team University. The University was established as a private, degree-granting university in October 2010. They acquired full accreditation as a private university five years later.
They held their fifth graduation on October 2017 with about 400 students being conferred with their degrees and certificate
Story about TEAM and Sakaja:
However, this wasTeam University gained notoriety thanks to Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja. The politician has often insinuated that he graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) with a degree in Actuarial Science. While appearing on Churchill show in June 2021, he stated that he bought a Mercedes Benz during his final year at the UoN in 2007.
He’s questioned after the University said while he indeed joined the school to pursue Actuarial Science, he is yet to graduate. On the other hand, Sakaja says he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management from Team University in Uganda.
According to the communications director at UoN, he was enrolled at the University on a module two program in 2003 but did not graduate. A petitioner had filed a complaint with the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee. Mr. Dennis Gakuu was seeking to have the senator prevented from vying for Nairobi’s gubernatorial race over failing to have a degree.
“Forget propaganda; sell your candidate. Our march is unstoppable, our faith unshakeable and our victory is inevitable,” he posted on Twitter following these revelations.
