Chief Justice Martha Koome has demanded that Citizen TV retract a story about the Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) and apologize for airing false information.

The Judiciary says that a report that aired on Citizen TV’s Monday Night Report yesterday at 9 o’clock, in which a reporter by the name of Brenda Wanga claimed that the judiciary had atoned for its past transgressions after a three-judge High Court bench’s decision regarding the appointment of CASs, is false.

The report, which the letter from the judiciary cites, claims that the judiciary swore in the CASs. However, the Judiciary says that this is not true and that the CASs were sworn in by the President.

The Judiciary has also said that the report was defamatory and has caused the Judiciary “irreparable damage.”

In a statement, Citizen TV said that it is “committed to accuracy and fairness in its reporting” and that it is “reviewing the matter.”

This is not the first time that Citizen TV has been accused of airing false information. In 2021, the station was fined Ksh1 million for airing a false story about the death of a police officer.

It remains to be seen whether Citizen TV will retract the story and apologize. However, the demand from the Judiciary is a serious one and could have implications for the station’s reputation.
