After Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s contentious comments, famous Kenyan politician Gathoni Wamuchomba came out in support of Nation Media Group.
Wamuchomba, in a message posted to her official Facebook page, reaffirmed her commitment to protecting freedom of the press as a vital tenet of the democratic order in Kenya.
Wamuchomba called on citizens to uphold the constitution and prevent the erosion of parliamentary independence and press freedom in favor of private gain.
She highlighted that the right of reply should not be obtained through pressure or threats, a point she made from her training as a journalist.
In addition, Wamuchomba emphasized the significance of a safe work environment and the freedom of expression for journalists in their roles as modern society’s agenda setters and gatekeepers of information.
She demanded that the political elite treat the media with dignity. Wamuchomba’s comment shows her support for Nation Media Group in light of the recent attacks on the company.
