Cherrynam Resort is located near Ngata on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, and its owner is Lee Njiru, a former governor of Nakuru county.
During the administration of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, the businessman worked as director of the Presidential Service Unit.
Njiru stated that he founded his company, which was formerly a school, due to his anxiety over losing his government job.
He had been subjected to bullying and tribalism at work, and he hoped to find another job in case he was fired.
In 1990, Njiru opened a butcher shop and bar in Racetrack, Nakuru County, both of which he eventually shut down.
Later in 2008, he began construction on what would become Cherrynam Resort, then a school he called Lenro Academy.
After a year of trying to make the school successful, Njiru gave up and turned it into a hotel in 2012.
The resort is on three acres of Njiru’s 25-acre estate, and he invested Ksh 10 million into it.
The resort caters to a wide range of needs, including those for weddings, team-building exercises, conferences, and picnics.
There are 25 guest rooms available for guests. It also features a helipad for convenient access.
