Dj Shiti is one of Kenya’s most popular comedians. He is also a content creator and actor and his real name is Steven Odour Ndede
Shiti stated in a new interview with media influencer Mwende Macharia for her podcast EMM Online TV that he does not take it for granted.
“before I became famous, nilipita process that molded me. It shaped me so much.”
Shiti began his career as a stand-up comedian in Nakuru.
He is the son of a Luhyia mother who is a fish trader and a Luo father who is a taxi driver. His comedy journey was difficult, with many rejections and failed attempts along the way.
He made a thousand pounds during his first comedy gig. Shiti lost this money in a very stupid way, as he described to Mwende.
‘By the way, I have never spoken about this story, yani ku coniwa inachanganya na ujinga”
He went to River Road to catch a bus back to Nakuru to celebrate his financial success. He was approached by a con man who convinced him that it was too late to leave Nairobi.
Shiti was duped into paying for food and drinks, as well as lodging, before they boarded a bus the next morning.
Shiti was duped into thinking they could stay at his house in Ngumo instead of paying for a hotel room. He was led to a pub where the conman consumed Shiti’s money.
“ile thao kidogo akaagiza chips omwami si hii pesa utaimaliza?”
They then proceeded to Ngumo, where the conman stopped to buy weed in a dangerous area.
“akaenda mahalai ambayo wajackoya inanunuliwa. Na si wajackoyah inanunuliwa hapo. bado ni place waizi huchomewa yani he left me here. Its a place where thieves are beaten . He told me he was going to buy medicine, so I wait for him there” he added.
The con man never returned. People became suspicious of Sj Shiti as time passed. An enraged mob gathered around him, threatening to set him on fire with a tire.
“kidogo watu washaa nizunguka, tire ndio hiyo, I didn’t understand what was happening”
Luck, on the other hand, was on his side. He was saved after pleading for mercy and explaining his predicament.
He’s been thinking about the terrifying incident for a long time. The former Kawangware Real Housewives actor laughed at his experience.
