Kenyans with verified accounts, like as celebrities, journalists, and politicians, would pay close to Sh30,000 each year to preserve their verification badges.

Larry Madowo, Kamene Goro, and Oga Obinna of Kenya will soon have to pay a little price to keep their verified Twitter accounts in the same status as the rest of the world.Photo Courstesy

Social media platforms will award a verification badge to an account if they are confident that it represents a legitimate representative of a known public person, celebrity, or company.

Twitter was recently acquired by US billionaire Elon Musk, who gave his workers until November 7 to roll out the updated premium subscription plan or be fired.

On a Wednesday, Elon Musk walked into Twitter’s San Francisco offices while lugging a kitchen sink. Wednesday at Twitter’s San Francisco offices, Elon Musk walks in holding a kitchen sink.

If implemented, customers will be required to pay a new subscription fee of $19.99 per year to maintain their verification badges and access additional premium features.

According to the current exchange rate, impacted Kenyans would have to pay Sh2,426 per month, or Sh 29,121 per year.

Existing verifiers will have until the end of the year and a half to subscribe to the new model or lose their verification credentials.

Many well-known people in Kenya, including actors, musicians, journalists, and politicians, will use the service provided by the plan.

If Elon Musk had his way, verified Twitter accounts will have to pay $20 per month to keep their blue badge. Sign up in the next 90 days or lose it!,” CNN International correspondent Larry Madowo tweeted, sparking a lively debate among Kenyans.

“What in the name of all that is holy is this?” explained Brian George, anchor for KTN’s newscasts.

According to Ahmed Mohamed Asmali, “Seems like Only SCAhmednasir Abdullahi will remain verified on Twitter in Kenya.”

Kamene Goro, one of the hosts of Kiss 100, was enthusiastic about the concept, while Oga Obinna was not.

Unlike Facebook and Instagram, where verification is quite simple to obtain, Twitter verification is not that straightforward.

Blue ticks on Twitter make people act like they’re the president, and now it’s only Sh2000 for us to join you. “Here we come,” she proclaimed. Obinna, on his part, has stated that he is not a Facebook fan.
